Looking after our members

St John Cymru Wales takes safeguarding seriously. We have comprehensive procedures in place which apply to all activities within the organisation.

We ensure that DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks are made, references taken up and a declaration signed by every applicant before becoming a member of St John Cymru Wales.

The St John Cymru Wales Safeguarding Policy covers a whole range of issues from risk assessments to a number of training and awareness initiatives, combating bullying and much more. All members who work/volunteer within the organisation must attend Safeguarding training and adhere to the policies and procedure. The organisation will take action against anyone not following these principles.

We train all our adults in best practice and take any measures required to strengthen and improve existing practice. We monitor and audit units to make sure they are in line with current practice and pay announced and unannounced visits to ensure units are working appropriately.

St John Cymru Wales, as an organisation, seeks to provide an environment where all leaders, adults, young people and children can work safely together to serve the community at large. We comply fully with the 2008 All Wales Child Protection Procedures and have designated officers throughout Wales that are trained and act as direct contacts for our members in any situation in addition to an on call helpline.

Keeping young people safe will always be of paramount importance to us.
